Baiyoke Tower Bangkok – Street Life Beneath the Skyline of Pratunam

There is a particular kind of energy in Pratunam, Bangkok, where the city's enormous skyline rises directly above narrow streets packed with markets, clothing stalls and everyday life. In this photograph, Baiyoke Tower dominates the background while the much smaller world of the street unfolds below.

What catches my attention is the contrast. On both sides, colourful clothing stalls and small shops occupy every available space, while above them a dense web of electrical cables stretches along the buildings. Then, almost unexpectedly, the tall Baiyoke Tower appears between the buildings, reminding us just how vertically Bangkok has developed.

I like photographs like this because they show Bangkok from street level rather than from the viewpoint of a tourist attraction. The people walking through the market, vendors behind their stalls, umbrellas, signs and tightly packed buildings create a sense of movement and everyday authenticity.

For a travel photographer, Pratunam is one of those places where you only have to walk a few metres to find another photograph. The combination of street markets, shopping, architecture and the unmistakable Bangkok skyline makes this part of the city a fascinating place to explore with a camera.
