Welcome to Southeast Lens Authentic Southeast Asian Photography — beyond the postcard Southeast Asia is not a destination I simply pass through. For years, I have been returning to its streets, markets, neighbourhoods and rivers — travelling through Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Myanmar with a camera and the curiosity to look beyond the obvious. Now based in Pattaya, many of my journeys have become focused photography trips. Sometimes I travel with a clear idea in mind. Other times, I simply walk, turn into a side street and see what happens. That is where many of my photographs begin. I’m looking for the moments that cannot be planned. A street vendor working beneath a neon sign. A face disappearing into the evening crowd. A motorbike cutting through the rain. A quiet conversation beside the Mekong. A small moment of everyday life surrounded by chaos. No staging. No posed models. Just real moments as they happen. My photography is built around contrast — light against darkness, old against new, silence against movement, and the everyday life that exists between Southeast Asia’s familiar landmarks. From the streets of Bangkok and Pattaya to the old quarters of Hoi An, the energy of Hanoi, the rivers of Laos and communities far beyond the usual tourist routes, I photograph what I encounter rather than what I expect to find.
