Bangkok Pratunam – Where Traffic, Shopping and City Life Meet
Description
From this elevated viewpoint, Pratunam in Bangkok unfolds as a dense urban corridor where several sides of the city come together. The wide road leads directly through the district, surrounded by shopping centres, hotels, commercial buildings, street vendors, taxis and an almost constant stream of motorcycles.
On the right, the unmistakable Platinum Fashion Mall dominates the scene, while the surrounding buildings rise layer by layer into Bangkok's modern skyline. On the opposite side, older commercial buildings, tangled electrical cables and small businesses create a strong contrast to the glass and steel architecture further behind.
I was particularly drawn to the way the road divides the photograph into two different rhythms. One side appears relatively open, while the lanes closer to the shopping district are packed with taxis, tuk-tuks, motorcycles and pedestrians. The green-and-yellow taxis add splashes of colour that immediately make the scene recognisable as Bangkok.
For me, this is what makes street photography in Bangkok so fascinating. It isn't only about famous landmarks. Sometimes the character of the city is found in traffic, shop signs, architecture and the people moving through their everyday routines. From above, Pratunam becomes almost like a living map of Bangkok — busy, colourful and constantly changing.
