Bangkok at Night – A River of Red Lights Through the City

There is a particular moment in Bangkok when the streets become almost completely filled with traffic, and the city seems to slow down without ever really stopping. From this elevated viewpoint, the road stretches far into the distance, packed with cars, taxis, buses and motorcycles. Thousands of red taillights form a continuous line through the heart of Bangkok.

What caught my attention here was the contrast between the intense traffic below and the quiet darkness of the evening sky above. On the left, illuminated high-rise buildings and enormous advertising screens dominate the scene, while modern office architecture rises on the opposite side of the road. In between, the dense green canopy of Bangkok's street trees creates a surprisingly natural layer within this highly urban environment.

As a travel and documentary photographer, I often look for these moments where a city reveals itself without needing a landmark as the main subject. The traffic itself becomes the story. The rows of vehicles, glowing signs, tangled overhead cables and illuminated buildings all come together to create a very recognisable image of Bangkok after dark.

For me, this is Bangkok in one frame: crowded, colourful, constantly moving and full of contrasts. A city where even a traffic jam can become an interesting photographic moment.
