Bangkok in Thailand – Modern Architecture Rising Above the Old City

Bangkok is a city of contrasts, and this view captures that character particularly well. A tall, contemporary glass-and-steel building rises above a much lower layer of rooftops, restaurants and older urban structures. For me, this mixture of architectural styles is one of the most fascinating aspects of photographing Bangkok.

The evening light adds another dimension to the scene. The glass façades reflect the soft blue of the sky while the last warm light of the day catches the surrounding buildings. At street level, however, Bangkok already begins to disappear into shadow. This creates a strong visual separation between the modern skyline and the everyday city below.

I deliberately kept the main tower almost centred in the frame, allowing the surrounding buildings to provide context. The reflections in the foreground façade add further layers and make the architecture feel almost three-dimensional.

When I photograph Bangkok, I am not only interested in famous landmarks. I also look for these quieter architectural moments — places where modern Bangkok meets the older, more familiar city beneath it. This is the Bangkok I enjoy discovering frame by frame.
