Bangkok by Night – A Sea of Lights Above the Green City

Bangkok takes on a completely different character after sunset. From this elevated viewpoint, the illuminated skyline rises above a dense layer of trees, creating a striking contrast between the modern city and the green spaces that remain hidden below the towers.

The tall building on the left, outlined in warm golden light, immediately draws the eye into the scene. Further across the skyline, illuminated office towers, hotels and residential buildings create a constantly changing pattern of windows and architectural forms. The white-lit tower near the centre adds another strong visual point beneath the heavy evening clouds.

What I particularly like about this view is that Bangkok does not appear as nothing more than concrete and skyscrapers. The trees in the foreground occupy almost half of the lower frame and bring an unexpected sense of depth and calm to an otherwise highly urban scene. Between the darkness of the vegetation and the lights of the buildings, the photograph captures two very different sides of the Thai capital.

For me as a travel photographer, this is the Bangkok I enjoy photographing: a city that is constantly moving, growing and changing, yet still leaves room for nature within its enormous urban landscape.
