Luang Prabang Night Market – A Young Vendor Among Lao Handicrafts

The Luang Prabang Night Market in Laos is full of color, craftsmanship and small encounters that can easily be missed when walking through the busy rows of stalls.

In this photograph, a young woman sits among handmade jewelry, beaded necklaces, small crafts and colorful textiles. She has just picked up her phone and is showing a price of 100,000 Lao kip, giving the scene an unexpected modern detail within this traditional market setting. Behind her, another vendor is quietly eating while motorcycles are parked along the wall and textiles hang from the stall.

What interested me most was the contrast. The young woman in her red sweater immediately catches the eye, while everything around her tells a broader story about everyday life at the Luang Prabang Night Market.

As a travel and documentary photographer, I enjoy these unscripted moments. They are not spectacular landmarks, but they reveal something much more personal about a place — the people working, selling, talking and simply spending another evening at the market.

For me, travel photography in Laos is about exactly these encounters: looking beyond the postcard image and finding the human story within the scene.
