Bangkok in Thailand – A Cityscape of High-Rises, Rooftops and Golden Light

From above, Bangkok reveals another side of itself. Modern high-rise buildings rise behind a much lower layer of rooftops, apartment blocks and everyday urban structures, creating a dense cityscape that seems to stretch endlessly toward the horizon.

What caught my attention in this scene was the evening light. The setting sun illuminates the façades of the taller residential buildings with a warm golden glow, while the foreground is already falling into shadow. The contrast gives the architecture a quiet, almost cinematic quality.

I like the way the different generations of Bangkok's architecture come together in this frame. Older low-rise buildings with water tanks and weathered rooftops sit directly beneath contemporary residential towers. There is no attempt to hide the differences — they are simply part of the city.

For me, this is an important part of photographing Bangkok beyond the famous landmarks. The city's character is not only found in its temples, markets or busy streets. It is also visible from above, in the everyday architecture and constantly changing skyline of a metropolis that continues to grow.
