A Fishmonger at Work – Everyday Market Life in Pattaya, Thailand

Inside the lively atmosphere of Photisarn Market in North Pattaya, a fish vendor prepares fresh seafood while briefly looking toward my camera. His blue shirt, dark apron and the large green basin in front of him immediately became the centre of the composition.

What I particularly like about this photograph is the combination of portrait and working environment. I did not separate the man from his surroundings. The old market scale, hanging goods, baskets, containers and colourful products behind him all remain part of the frame and give the portrait its context.

His expression adds another dimension to the photograph. There is no obvious posing or staged smile — just a brief moment of awareness while he continues working. For me, this creates a much more genuine connection with the person and the place.

Photographing local markets in Thailand is about more than documenting food. It is about the people who work there every day and the small interactions that happen between vendors and customers. Photisarn Market offers a very different view of Pattaya from the one most visitors encounter, and these are exactly the everyday moments I want to preserve through my photography.
