Everyday Life in Pattaya – A Family Ride Through the Streets of Thailand

A small songthaew-style tuk-tuk moves through the streets of Pattaya, carrying a group of passengers who seem completely at ease with the tight space. The young girl looking directly toward the camera immediately caught my attention, while the smiles and relaxed expressions of the other passengers give the scene a warm, spontaneous character.

This is one of those moments that says much more about everyday life in Thailand than a typical tourist photograph. Pattaya is often associated with nightlife, beaches and tourism, but there is another side to the city — families going about their daily routines, local transportation, scooters and ordinary street scenes.

I particularly like the way the late-afternoon sunlight falls across the tuk-tuk and the passengers. The green canopy creates a natural frame, while the red scooter and the surrounding street add additional layers of colour and context. The vehicle's Thai licence plate also firmly places the scene in Chon Buri, Thailand.

As a travel and documentary photographer, these are the moments I look for when walking through Pattaya. They are unscripted, human and fleeting. For me, street photography is often about being ready when an ordinary moment suddenly becomes a photograph with its own personality and story.
